After several limited-schedule seasons in the NASCAR Nextel Cup
Series, Ted joined Ultra Motorsports owner, Jim Smith in the NASCAR
Craftsman Truck Series. He ran his first full season of competition
in the Truck series in 2001. He finished up his 2001 campaign as
runner-up in the points chase, earning seven wins in 24 starts,
completing 4,133 of 4,280 laps (96.6%), and led 810 laps.
In 2002, Ted finished up his second full season third in the NASCAR
Craftsman Truck Series driver point standings, with 22 starts,
completed 3,651 of 3,737 laps (97.7%), and led 757 laps. He earned
three wins, along with 12 top-fives and 16 top-10?s. He had an
average start of 4.8 and an average finish of 8.1.
In 2003, his team owner, Jim Smith, revealed that Ted was battling
cancer in the midst of a tight battle for the NCTS title. Through
the support of his team, family, friends, and his many loyal fans,
Ted beat his battle with cancer and finished the 2003 season third
in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver points. He had 25
starts, completed 4,192 of 4,317 laps (97.1%), and led 796 laps. He
earned three wins, along with 14 top-fives and 18 top-10?s.
Ted finished up his 2004 season third in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck
Series driver points chase. He had 25 starts, completed 4,085 of
4,230 laps (96.6%), and led 757 laps. Ted had two wins, along with
11 top-fives and 16 top-10?s. He had an average start of 10.2 and an
average finish of 10.4.
Since 2002, Musgrave has finished no less than third-place for three
consecutive years. Musgrave and the No. 1 Mopar Dodge team captured
their first NASCAR Craftsman Series Championship in 2005 for owner,
Jim Smith.
Ultra Motorsports owner, Jim Smith closed Ultra's doors before the
start of the 2006 season. It did not take Ted long to find a new
home. He joined the Germain Racing Team before the start of the 2006
season and is looking to be the first driver to repeat as the NASCAR
Craftsman Truck Series Champion.
