| Musgrave, No. 9 Team ASE Toyota Finish 5th at Michigan International Speedway | ||
| Brooklyn, MI (June 18, 2007)
Ted Musgrave drove his Germain Racing No. 9 Team ASE Toyota to a
fifth-place finish in Saturday’s Michigan 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck
Series race at Michigan International Speedway. Musgrave started
ninth, and quickly made his way towards the front. Musgrave battled
among the top five for the entire 100-lap race around the 2-mile
tri-oval, and over the final quarter of the race was in a tight pack
battling for the lead and the win. “All day long the truck was good,” Musgrave said. “It’s the same truck we ran in Kansas and it was good there too. It was good right off the hauler here too. We worked with a few different things on it this weekend, and we were a top-five truck all day long. I thought we had a shot to win at the end but the cloud cover came in and it made us tighter. We made our way up to third there but the clouds came in and we slipped back to fifth. It was a good day for us and we learned a lot that will help us throughout the year.” Musgrave had worked his way up to third place late in the race, but was still over a second behind the battle for the lead between Kyle Busch and Travis Kvapil. Musgrave was able to close that gap when the top two started to race side-by-side, but the track conditions changed on him before he could make a run for the win. “When that happens that’s the key,” Musgrave said. “Two trucks side by side open up a really big air pocket, especially here. But right as they started to do that; our truck just started to get way too tight. What we needed was one more adjustment, and we had it all set up to go, but there was no way that late in the race we would have given up all that track position. I was biting my tongue in the seat because I knew what we needed to do to fix it, but that late in the race we couldn’t really do anything about it because we couldn’t give up track position. But it’s always good to be up front and contend for wins.” With the start of summer just days away, the race was run on one of the warmest days of the year in the Midwest so far. The heat may have affected some, but not Musgrave. “I didn’t even know it was hot today,” Musgrave joked. “I’ve maybe only run one of those helmet coolers two or three times ever in my career. A lot of the guys do run those. I condition myself to not run them. When it does get really hot I am not going to be falling out of the seat because I am already conditioned for it.” On the strength of four top-five and eight top-ten finishes so far this season, Musgrave sits sixth in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship standings entering his “home” race this Friday night at The Milwaukee Mile. Musgrave is 288 points behind leader Mike Skinner and just four points behind fifth-place Rick Crawford. The Toyota Tundra 200 at The Milwaukee Mile is up next for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The green flag will wave on the eleventh race of the season shortly after 9 P.M. Eastern, and the race will be televised live on SPEED as well as select radio affiliates of the Motor Racing Network. TruckSeries.com will have complete event coverage online at www.truckseries.com. ________________________________________________________________ What is Team ASE? In the early days of racing, the driver
was often recognized as the main reason for a team’s success.
Recently, the crew chief and crew have been acknowledged as equally
important in creating a winning situation for every race team. A
parallel exists between racing and the automotive service industry.
Similar to the way a crew chief and crew must deliver a satisfactory
product to the driver in order to win the race, an employer and the
technicians in a service and repair shop must satisfy the needs of
their customer in order to create return business. But what makes
TEAM ASE most unique is the level of commitment from our certified
technicians involved in the program – both on and off the track.
Being competitive on the race track is important to TEAM ASE because
ASE is itself a standard of excellence. However, TEAM ASE’s success
in motorsports is not solely measured by pole position, top-five
finishes or by slapping hundreds of decals on racecars. There is
much more to the TEAM ASE program.
