What is ASE?

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, better known as ASE, is a non-profit organization created in 1972 with the mission of improving the quality of vehicle repairs through the voluntary testing and certification of repair and service professionals. ASE measures and recognizes the knowledge of automotive service professionals.

Approximately 400,000 automotive professionals hold current ASE certifications. They work in every segment of the automotive service industry: car and truck dealerships, independent garages, fleets, franchises, parts stores, collision repair shops, machine shops and more. ASE-certified technicians usually wear blue and white ASE shoulder insignia listing their exact area of expertise. Employers often display their technicians’ credentials in the customer waiting area.

Although the certification of professional technicians remains ASE’s primary mission, today the organization encompasses much more. ASE works in many ways to help educate consumers, the media and others to promote informed decision making when seeking automotive repairs. ASE is also an information resource for professionals and consumers about many automotive topics. For more information see www.ASE.com.

What is Team ASE?

In the early days of racing, the driver was often recognized as the main reason for a team’s success. Recently, the crew chief and crew have been acknowledged as equally important in creating a winning situation for every race team.

A parallel exists between racing and the automotive service industry. Similar to the way a crew chief and crew must deliver a satisfactory product to the driver in order to win the race, an employer and the technicians in a service and repair shop must satisfy the needs of their customer in order to create return business. But what makes TEAM ASE most unique is the level of commitment from our certified technicians involved in the program – both on and off the track.

Being competitive on the race track is important to TEAM ASE because ASE is itself a standard of excellence. However, TEAM ASE’s success in motorsports is not solely measured by pole position, top-five finishes or by slapping hundreds of decals on racecars. There is much more to the TEAM ASE program.

Team ASE is also…

● A student outreach program that encourages young people to explore careers in the automotive industry.

● A grassroots motorsports program that has over 800 teams, each with an ASE-certified technician as a crewmember or driver. All together, they compete in over 17,000 local events across the country.

● A comprehensive motorsports program that generates millions of viewer impressions annually for ASE in national television exposure.

● An outreach program that teaches consumers what to look for and how to choose an automotive service and repair shop.

● A communications channel to bolster the benefits of ASE-certification to consumers and trade media using unique sponsorship alliances.
