Results in 31st-Place Finish at New Hampshire; 6th in Championship
Standings Loudon, New Hampshire (September 18, 2006) Defending series champion Ted Musgrave was involved in a crash on lap 90 of the New Hampshire 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at New Hampshire International Speedway, relegating him to a season-low 31st-place finish. The No. 9 Team ASE Toyota spun entering turn three, backing hard into the turn three wall. Musgrave limped his Toyota Tundra back to the garage and after a team assessment, decided to load it onto the trailer and call it a day. “We went down the backstretch and we made contact two or three times with another driver,” Musgrave said. “Once we got to the corner I felt like we got pushed down to the apron and the truck came around. It was a pretty hard hit and the Team ASE Toyota is in pretty bad shape. It’s very disappointing. We had a good truck here. Rick Gay and the guys have really come together and they deserved better than this today. If people want to drive us like that, we can definitely give it back.” The 31st-place finish is Musgrave’s first finish of 30th or lower since July 2004 at Kansas Speedway when he came home 30th. In 142 career starts, Musgrave has only six finishes of 30th or worse. The last time an accident ended his day early was at Bristol, also in 2004. It was Musgrave’s first “did not finish” in 29 races, dating back to Memphis in 2005. Musgrave dropped to sixth in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship standings as a result of the accident. His Germain Racing teammate Todd Bodine continues to lead the standings. “It’s the time of the year when you do all you can to get every point you can, and this really hurts,” Musgrave said. “I’ve never finished lower than third (in the Championship) since coming to the Truck Series, and we certainly haven’t given up on this year yet. We made up 242 points last year and won the championship so it can be done. We’re going to go out and race as hard as we can the rest of the season.” Next up for Musgrave and the No. 9 Team ASE Toyota is the Smiths Las Vegas 350 at the newly remodeled Las Vegas Motor Speedway on September 23. There will be an open test day on Friday September 22, while practice, qualifying, and the 350-kilometer race are all scheduled for Saturday. Speed Channel will carry the race live starting at 9 P.M.
