| Musgrave, No. 9 Team ASE Toyota Come Out Swinging at Daytona | ||
| Daytona Beach, FL (February
21, 2006) Defending NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion Ted
Musgrave and the No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota Team finished
Friday's GM FlexFuel 250 at Daytona with an impressive third place
finish. Musgrave showed why he is the reigning Champion, running
strong all evening. He and team mate Todd Bodine did all they could
to catch race winner Mark Martin, but a last lap caution foiled
their two-prong quest for the Daytona checkers. "I'll tell you what, it was awesome," said Musgrave. "I wasn't really sure how the truck was going to start off the race. All of a sudden it seemed like it sniffed a draft, kind of got out near the front. When I got out near the front, I said, "Man, this is the place to be," because this truck handled really, really, well. Todd had a handful, but he hung on. I'm going to tell you what, this team came together well. First time out for Team ASE in a Toyota, my new team, everybody worked together. We did what we set out to do at Daytona which was lead laps and run up front to have a shot to win. Musgrave started the race in the 17th spot moving his way to fifth position by lap-15. On lap-21 Musgrave was in second and knocking on the door of race leader Mike Skinner in the No. 5 Toyota Tundra. He made his move on lap-22 as he took the lead from Skinner on lap-23. Musgrave would lead eight laps but lose the lead on lap-29, when Skinner regained the lead again. The first caution of the race came out on lap-27 when the No. 12 Toyota Tundra of Joey Miller wrecked off of turn four. Musgrave in second came in the pits under caution getting tires, fuel, and air pressure adjustments. When Musgrave left the pits the No. 77 pitted side ways in front of the No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota pit stall causing Musgrave to come out in fourth. When the field went back to green flag action, Musgrave started in fourth but was back in the second spot by lap-42. On lap-44 the caution flew for the second time of the race when the No. 16,22,25,25, 47, wrecked in turn two. Musgrave came in the pits for fuel, tires, and air pressure adjustments. The Team ASE Germain Toyota pit crew made a good pit stop to get Musgrave out of the pits. When the green flag flew Musgrave started in fifth. He would work his way back up to third by lap-63. The third caution of the race came on lap-74 when truck No's. 12, 15, 29,47,59,75, and 88 wrecked in turn-three. Musgrave came into the pits third as he got fuel, tires, and air pressure adjustments. The green flag flew on lap-78 with Musgrave starting in the third spot. He had shuffled back to ninth by lap-88. Musgrave made his move back to the front on lap-90 when he moved up to fourth. On lap-97 he went to third. Than the fourth caution of the race came out of lap-98 when the No. 17 of David Reutimann and No. 77 of Brendan Gaughan wrecked in turn four. It was going to be a green-white-checkered finish for Musgrave along with teammate Todd Bodine who was in second. As the field went back to green flag action, the fifth caution of the race came out on lap-102 when the No. 15 of Kyle Krisloff and No. 33 of Ron Hornaday wrecked on the front stretch ending the race under caution and any hopes for a Bodine Musgrave one and two finish. Crew Chief Tom Ackerman was proud of his team's third place finish. "I am so proud of this team," said Crew Chief Tom Ackerman. "The guys have just worked so hard in such a short period of time. I can't say enough about Ted Musgrave he did a spectacular job. I could have not asked anything more out of this team. This is a great start for us."
