Chevrolet Silverado Driver, Dennis Setzer Retakes Championship Point Lead at Martinsville Bobby Labonte Scores Fourth Top-Five Finish in Five Races for Chevrolet Silverado All-Stars FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Morgan-Dollar Motorsports Sam Brown (910) 724-1148 Cell (704) 871-2260 Off. (704) 871-1928 Fax MARTINSVILLE, VA – OCTOBER 23, 2004 – Dennis Setzer, driver of the #46 Chevrolet Silverado race truck, erased a seventy-nine point deficit that was held by Dodge driver Bobby Hamilton with his second-place finish at the Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway. Setzer scored his fifth straight top-three finish at Martinsville on Saturday and now takes a one-point lead over Bobby Hamilton with three races remaining in the 2004 NASCAR Craftsman Truck series season. The field was set based on current point standings due to a rainout of qualifying on Friday. NASCAR rules mandate that the top 30 positions be set by owner points, then by most recent wins by owner or driver and then by attempts. Setzer would also start in second place due to his points position prior to the race, while his Chevrolet All-Star teammate Bobby Labonte would have to settle for a 35th place starting position. Dennis ran inside the top-five for most of the day and looked as if he would score his third win in five races as he chased down Nextel Cup regular, Jaime McMurray in his #2 Dodge in the closing laps. Setzer pulled to within one truck length with just five laps to go, but could not pull close enough to McMurray to make the pass. “Martinsville has always been good to me whether it was in a late model, a Busch car or a NASCAR Craftsman Truck and has always been a fun place to come to,” said Setzer. “My teammate Bobby Labonte ran an awesome race today and all of these Silverados just keep going forward. Danny Gill (crew chief) and all the guys on the crew made some great calls in the pits for us today. They made some good adjustments on it and we were able to drive our way back to the front. There was a lot of beating and banging there behind me but we were able to stay out of it and keep our Chevrolet Silverado in one piece.” ON RETAKING POINTS LEAD: “This is going to be tight race all the way to Homestead. We just have to focus on our program and do what we need to do.” Bobby Labonte was the fifth driver to take the wheel of the #47 Chevrolet Silverado All-Star race truck. Labonte scored the fourth top-five finish and third top-three finish in five All-Star races. His run was impressive considering he had to start 35th in a 36 truck field. “We didn’t get to qualify so we had to start 35th but we had a good Silverado all weekend,” said Labonte. “Randy (Goss, crew chief) made a great call to pit early and we gained track position. We weren’t as fast as a few guys but we were fast enough to pass people one we were in the clear. Chevrolet put this All-Star program together and asked some of us last winter if we wanted to participate. It was really fun to race this No. 47 Chevrolet All-Star truck. The crew did a great job all day long. This was all Randy’s call and why this was such a successful effort. It was great to get a Chevrolet two and three. Wish we could have gotten by Jamie (McMurray) there at the end but he had a fast truck. I had a great time out there today and would really like to race in this program again.” Jack Sprague’s up and down season continued as he was involved in a late race crash while trying to pass for the lead. He made a move under leader Travis Kvapil with just 25 laps to go, they got together and crashed into the outside retaining wall. Jack would go on to finish 28th but still resides in 10th position in the overall point standings. The next event for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is November 5th at Phoenix International Raceway. The Silverado 150 at Phoenix will be the 23rd event of 25-race 2004 season, and the first at the desert mile in Phoenix. SPEED TV will provide live coverage beginning at 6:00 PM EDT.
