Milwaukee, WI – On the night of his 150th start, and at the location of his
first-ever NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, Dennis Setzer came close to
claiming his 13th career truck win. Setzer extended his championship point
lead to 131 points by scoring his sixth top-five finish this season through
nine races.
Setzer, who started in the 12th position steadily made his way to the front
of the pack as the team adjusted on a tight race truck. After the first pit
stop at lap 61, Setzer would restart seventh. The team made a wedge and air
pressure adjustment on that stop to free the truck up.
A few laps into the run, Dennis still complained that the truck was tight in
the middle of the corner. When the caution fell at lap 100, it was a
fortunate break for the #46 Morgan-Dollar Motorsports Chevrolet. The pit
stop that followed at lap 103 would be their last stop of the night.
A few more adjustments, fuel and tires would get the team to the end while
other contenders would need one more stop to get their trucks to the finish.
“I can’t say enough about the engine program that we have in Richard
Childress Racing,” said Setzer. “We get awesome horsepower, and excellent
fuel mileage from those guys every week.”
Dennis was able to take advantage of his track position to take the lead
with just 21 laps to go. Setzer held the lead for a while, but a
hard-charging Ted Musgrave was coming from the rear of the field. “I knew
Ted was catching me, and I drove that Silverado as hard as I could in the
final laps. These tires really fall off after about thirty laps and then you
are a sitting duck. It’s a good finish for us, but we really want to get
some more wins under our belt.”
A late caution provided a green-white-checkered flag finish and Setzer would
restart his Silverado in second position. Chad Chaffin, who had the freshest
tires of all the front runners, was able to get by Dennis on the final lap.
The team was a little disappointed that their third win of the season
slipped right out of their fingers in the final laps. However,
Morgan-Dollar’s championship lead is extended to five races in a row and a
total of 131 points. “It’s too late to start thinking about running for the
championship. We just want to win races at this point. If we win races, the
points will come. We also wanted to win here tonight because Rob and Vici
Morgan just gave birth to a new Morgan-Dollar crewmember. Lainey Elle Morgan
was born last night at ten o’clock. To win here would have been a great
present for our new addition and to Rob and Vici,” added Dennis Setzer after
the race.
The next race for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is next Saturday at the
Kansas Speedway in Lenexa, Kansas. Dennis and his #46 Chevrolet Silverado
teammates have never finished outside the top-three at Kansas in three races
held at the track. Dennis also has won two of three 1.5-mile tracks this
year so far and is looking to get back to victory lane. The race will start
at 3:00 pm EST on Saturday, July 3rd. The race will be broadcast live on the
Speed Channel and MRN (Motor Racing Network radio).
