Brooklyn, MI – The “official” second-half of the 2004 NASCAR Craftsman Truck
Series season starts on lap 51 of this weekend’s Line-X Spray-on Bedliners
200, but don’t expect current point leader Dennis Setzer and the #46
Morgan-Dollar Motorsports team to look back admiringly at the first part of
the season.
“I would give us a B,” stated Setzer when asked about the team’s performance
this season. “We really need to improve in a lot of areas. Our team didn’t
expect to make any immediate impact because of all the changes in the
off-season, but we have had time to build chemistry and learn to come
together, so I am hopeful that we can reach our full potential for the
second half.”
Setzer is pointing out the fact that not only did Morgan-Dollar Motorsports
relocate from Oklahoma to North Carolina, but the team has a lot of new
faces, and has to race with new and untested race trucks. Morgan-Dollar
moved their facility in November and re-staffed over 50% of the existing
team. Also to meet the common template rule instated by NASCAR, the team had
to build all new trucks to use this season.
So far, most teams would be happy with the results that the #46 Chevrolet
Silverado race team has posted. Two wins, seven top-five finishes and a 64
point lead in the overall standings through the first twelve races. However,
Dennis and the team feel that they have yet to realize their potential and
are setting different goals for the second half.
“We want to win more races, and do so in dominating fashion,” said Setzer.
“We put ourselves in position to get the wins and the finishes that we’ve
had, but we haven’t had everyone covered at any particular race like we did
in a couple of races last season. It’s no one’s fault in particular. There
have been mistakes by the driver, mistakes by the pit crew and we have just
plain missed it on some set ups. Those are the kinds of things we have to
eliminate to go up from here.”
There could not be a more important venue for the #46 Chevrolet Silverado
team to shine than in the backyard of General Motors this weekend. GM became
the primary sponsor of the #46 team prior to the start of the season. GM is
utilizing the sponsorship to promote their major full-size truck brand,
Chevrolet Silverado, and its key components.
Other than Daytona, two races in the year that bring out special feelings
for the teams are Lowe’s Motor Speedway and Michigan International Speedway.
Lowe’s is the track with bragging rights for the teams because 90% of all
NASCAR teams are based in the Charlotte area. Michigan is sentimental
because is the home track to the big three manufacturers: Chevrolet, Dodge
and Ford.
“We were able to win at Lowe’s and Texas. Lowe’s was great, and Texas was
important to Chevrolet since it’s a big market for selling pick up trucks.
But we really want to win one here at Michigan for everyone at GM, Chevrolet
and Silverado that has supported our team over the years,” Setzer also
stated.
Dennis and the team will need to make a marked improvement over their past
at the 2-mile superspeedway. Although Setzer has completed every lap since
the trucks started racing at MIS, his best finish was fifth - coming in 2000
while driving for another manufacturer. Dennis has two top-tens and one
top-five in four starts at MIS. Morgan-Dollar’s best finish at MIS is eighth
(twice).
Look for Dennis Setzer and his #46 Team Silverado to kick off the season’s
second half in style this weekend at the Michigan International Speedway.
Live green flag begins on the Speed Channel Saturday, July 31st at 1:00 pm
