MOORESVILLE, NC (October 12, 2004) - Chad Blount will make his first foray into NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series ranks this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway when he takes over the driving duties for the Ultra Motorsports prepared No. 2 Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge. Blount is a proven winner in the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) series and has also competed in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series and the NASCAR Busch Series. Blount looks forward to his return to Texas Motor Speedway, having accomplished his career best NBS finish (5th) at the Longhorn state venue last year.

"I am excited about this weekend, very excited," Blount said. "Texas is one of my favorite tracks. It is a great place to go with a good team and a good truck and I think we have both. I really didn't have any experience in the NASCAR Craftsman Trucks until I tested the Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge at Homestead earlier this year. I think the trucks drive more like a Cup car than a Busch car. With that big bed sticking out and with the big blade on the rear spoiler you can drive them a lot freer. They really slow down a lot -- when you let off the gas it is like pulling a parachute at the same time."

The 25-year-old Walkerton, IN native has been around motorsports as long as he can remember.

"I could probably build a race car when I was 13 years old," Blount said. "My dad (Bob) raced for a living. It wasn't at a real big level. It was at a local level, but he made money doing it. I worked in the shop every day. When I got home from school I'd be in the shop working on race cars with my father. He taught me everything he knows."

In late 2001, Blount graduated to the ARCA Series, where he garnered victories at Michigan, Kentucky, Chicagoland and Charlotte. He won rookie of the year honors in 2002 and was runner-up in the championship chase. In 2003, he made 19 NBS starts for Carroll Racing in its No. 26 Dodge. He snagged a pair of top-10 finishes including his fifth-place effort at Texas Motor Speedway. He has two NASCAR Nextel Cup starts this year at Chicago and Talladega.

"I just want to thank Jim Smith, ASE and CARQUEST for this opportunity," Blount said. "That is a great group of guys at Ultra Motorsports. They really work hard at putting out the best truck possible. Although we haven't had the chance to work together that much I think we are bonding pretty well in a short period of time. Hopefully that will payoff on the race track this weekend."

Chad Blount and the rest of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitors are primed for the Silverado 350K at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday Oct. 16th. The race will be broadcast live on The Speed Channel, MRN Radio and XM Satellite Radio at 3 pm ET.
